It's Pouring ... almost...

The builders have been away making formers for the slabs and making steel works for the reinforcement. So, I was pleased to get some images of progress from my project manager earlier this week. Also it is worth mentioning that the builder got paid his first schedule (1 of 7), and i'm sure it won't be long before schedule payment two is due.

So, without further waffle, here are some images of preparations for pouring the slabs. Basically wooden formers are used to hold the concrete whilst it sets, this is then removed and the concrete is all on its own... with steel reinforcement.

This shows the wooden formers for the main deck and front of kitchen and living area. Ah, the sky... and that tree has got to go. Unfortunately it is on my next door neighbours land... lightening strike?

Directly towards Pico Island. Yep, that tree. LOL. I note here that the tops of some of the upright reinforcement have ben cut to length That will be the hight of the roof over the deck.

This is the deck above the under-house garage. Also here we can see the next door neighbours and the barn. The road past next doors leads to the village of Pedro Miguel, only a stones throw away, where can be found a cafe-bar and mini-market.

Looking towards Sao Jorge island - you can just see it on the horizon. A short distance down the land and past the house below, leads to a viewing point; a miradouro - a scene of beauty, at Ponta Joao Dias, where the islands and the coast can be seen. Regular bike ride in the morning I think. Getting down is easy, but the return journey may be more energetic ;)

The straight road on the map leads to Ponta Joao Dias...shown with the red marker .... the western end of the road is the bottom of the plot, so a nice direct ride or walk :)

And just in, here are the latest photos of the preparation for the pouring of the slabs; here we can see the reinforcement in place. Progress should now be quite rapid after the slabs have been made.

Here we can see the entrance porch and the entire boundary of the covered area.

Finally, this image shows a good detail of the reinforcement to the slabs. Pouring is going to happen soon, but will be dependent on the weather of course. I think this is awesome :) It's very exciting to see this phase - as I know when this is done we will see walls rising. As a side note I'm seeing the slabs over the garage and to the front of the house - but not sure what happens at the area nearest to the camera...
